A few weeks ago I was having a very hard time. I was freaking out about the future (which sadly is quite common for me). And I was running through a list in my brain with God telling Him all the things I no longer trust.

My government… sorry, seems like these days 9 decisions out of 10 I no longer agree with.
My country…. hmmmm, not sure I trust where it’s headed either
Myself… what if things really do get difficult and some hard times are ahead for my family??? Will I really handle them well??

And very quietly the Holy Spirit asked “But can you trust Me?”

I didn’t answer. I had to think on it.

One of my favorite songs is “Our God Saves.” I love to sing that song, and yet, I realized that I’m not even sure what exactly that phrase means. What does it mean to say “our God saves”?

Well, let me read for you what one man wrote after witnessing God’s salvation:

“I will sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted; The horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea. The LORD is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation; This is my God, and I will praise Him; my father’s God, and I will extol Him. The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is His name. Your right hand, O LORD, is majestic in power. Your right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy…” sang Moses and the Israelites after watching Pharaoh and his army drown in the Sea.

“He has become my salvation..” “God saves”… according to the Bible this means that God is coming down, rending the heavens, and intervening on behalf of His people in this world. God’s salvation means His glory is being put on display for the entire world to see and watch out those who stand in His way. God’s salvation means that He is acting faithfully towards His Covenant and His Covenant people.

Therefore, Our God Saves is a banner cry that means not only is God a warrior but bc of the Covenant I am in with God through Jesus, this living God whom the very heavens cannot contain is MY Warrior fighting on my behalf to bring Himself glory through me.

Can I trust this God?

Implicitly. Bc my God saves and He has saved and is saving me.
