So we’ve looked at the brain and how the biggest part of the sexual act actually occurs in the brain. We’ve also talked about how sex affects the brain. Now we need to look at porn.
We usually think of porn as ‘those movies behind the curtain only adults can see.’ Or in the “bad aisle” at the video store that we don’t want our kids noticing. Porn is the kinky internet sites that we block so our sons won’t accidentally turn them on. Porn isn’t in our homes or on our televisions.
What is Porn?
According to Mirriam-Webster online dictionary porn is defined as
-
the depiction of erotic behavior (as in pictures or writing) intended to cause sexual excitement
-
material (as in books or a photograph) that depicts erotic behavior and is intended to cause sexual excitement
Did you notice how big the definition was? Sadly porn isn’t limited only to images (movies) but also includes what you read. Books can be porn. If a book you’re reading has the potential to turn you on – it might be porn!
Porn actually has its own genre when it comes to books. Erotic fiction is, according to one online dictionary, the genre of literature that has “no literary or artistic value other than to stimulate sexual desire.” Does that sound like the definition of porn?
Well, who’s issue is this? Bc everyone knows men can struggle with porn but what about women? Can women actually have an issue with porn (i.e. lust)?
Yes, women can and women are according to ABC news. “About one in three woman now admit they watch porn.” One in three woman are watchingporn. But who knows how many are reading it. There is actually a new term that’s been coined and used for women who read erotic fiction. It’s been called a “mommy porn revolution.” Sounds like both men and women have this struggle to me.

Alright so maybe you’ve read a few books or you and your spouse have seen a few movies that weren’t the highest quality. What’s the big deal about porn anyway? Isn’t it suppose to be helpful for the marriage? Isn’t it suppose to encourage creativity in sex? Is it really that dangerous? And what does all this have to do with Fifty Shades of Grey?
