I’m a slow learner. But one day I hope to learn that God does not want to be sought after for any reason other than for who He is.

Jeremiah 29:13 states, “you will seek Me and you will find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” God will not be used as a vending machine, a thing to hedge our bets with, a plan B, or even a, “I have my plan A but in case God doesn’t come through I still have plan B”.

If you want to find God, if you want to SEE God, then you have to seek Him with all your heart for no other reason other than the fact that He is God and it’s what He deserves.

I’m not sure I have ever sought God simply because He is God. Or, to put it another way – I will seek God’s hand over His face. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve been frustrated in prayer because it feels like God’s either not listening or not answering – so why pray? It’s not making a difference anyway!

What about you? What if you never saw another answer to prayer?
Would you still pray?

What if you were never given peace in the midst of another trial, or patience with the struggles that come your way on a daily basis? What if you could never again expect relief from difficult circumstances, or wisdom to know how to deal with life? Would you still have a relationship with the Lord?

What if He never promised life in heaven, joy unending, a Friend who sticks closer than a brother, acceptance and love for no reason other than the fact that He has chosen to love you?
Would you still be seeking Him today?

What if God did not give wisdom to all who ask Him, or salvation to all who seek Him?
Would you continue to seek? Or would you be done?

Thankfully, praise the Lord, He does all those things mentioned and more! And each and every one is a reason to push in to Him, to praise Him and to thank Him! But can we not occasionally stop and say ,”even if You don’t… or didn’t… I would still love You, Lord.”

This week, believer, as you thank God for the many blessings He has provided, and as you bring your petitions before Him, may you also remember to ask the Lord to give you a heart that seeks His face no matter what. May you be able to say, “even if I never see Your hands move again, I will be content just to glimpse Your face.”

Because, honestly, He’s God and it’s what He requires and, more importantly, it’s what He deserves.
