One of the chapters Bry and I decided to memorize last year was Isaiah 40. Part of the chapter states this
“who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand. Or with the breadth of his hands marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance? Who has understood the mind of the Lord or instructed Him as His counselor? Whom did the Lord consult to enlighten Him and who taught Him the right way? Who was it that taught Him knowledge or showed Him the path of understanding? Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket they are regarded as dust on the scales. He weighs the islands as though they were fine dust… Before Him all the nations are as nothing. They are regarded by Him as worthless and less than nothing. To whom then will you compare God? What image will you compare Him to?… Lift your eyes and look to the heavens, who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls them each by name. Bc of His great power and mighty strength not one of them is missing.”
Can you imagine it – a God so big He can hold all the earth’s water in His hand or pick up all the dust of the earth in a basket! And each night He brings out each and every star. This is our God! Yet this is the same God who walked among us, felt hunger and thirst, what it’s like to be weary and in pain.
The God who put each star in place became a baby who had to learn how to stack blocks. The God who needs no counselor or teacher had to be taught how to speak. The God who weighs the mountains on the scales and the islands as though they were fine dust became a child who was tucked in at night by His mother. The God to whom the nations are like a drop in a bucket knows your name and became a man first to bring glory to His Father in heaven and secondly to save you.
This is our God. It’s unfathomable and even incomprehensible I know. But what kind of a God would He be if I could understand and fathom each and everything He did? How amazing would He be if a man could come up with His ways? This is our God, praise His Name.
