Now is the time of year when Christmas Carols fill the air. People of all ages, backgrounds, and beliefs feel comfortable singing about the birth of Jesus. After all, what could be safer than a little baby who has come to bring peace, love, joy and hope to the world?

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Christmas carols (I could listen to them 24/7 right now) and I love hearing the music at this time of year. And sometimes I am amazed at the people who are very willing to sing about Jesus.

But then I realize – many of these people have no clue what they’re singing about.

It may shock many people to learn that Jesus Himself said “I did not come to bring peace but a sword” and “He is who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters.”

Jesus’ message that He alone is the way to the Father and He alone is Savior, Lord, and Master would be scandalous so it’s ignored.

Many lovers of good Christmas carols today have no clue what the Bible actually says or what Jesus was really all about. Jesus was about His Father’s work, giving His Father glory by bringing His Father’s kingdom. And yes, part of that is peace on earth, love, joy, and hope but it also means so much more.

So we need to ask ourselves – do we simply love the Christmas carols, or do we know and love the Jesus behind the song?

Do you stop at the baby or have you met the Man?

Believer, may it never be said of us that we are worshipping in ignorance. May we know the Jesus behind the songs. May we study the words of our Savior and share His heart.
